Is an RTO really a viable business option?

Let’s look at the government priority is currently is to have suitably skilled and qualified people with the potential to make a positive contribution to Australian society. It has been reported they will concentrate on:

  • Having training that provides an employment outcome.
  • Providing training to the regions.
  • Enhancing international education as an export.
  • Developing necessary skills to get efficiency in the workforce.
  • Address workforce development needs.

Economic factors can impact in various ways on training and skills. An increase in unemployment results in increased need for training as individuals seek skills to improve employability. Additionally, some employers use periods of downturn in business activity as opportunities to up-skill the current workforce.

While the current economic downturn is expected to cause an increase in unemployment across Australia, any labour excess is unlikely to have an impact on skills shortages as retrenchments are unlikely to be in specific skill needs areas.

Retrenched workers seeking entry to a new industry are also likely to need industry specific training.

Well that says to me that having the opportunity to provide Nationally Recognised Training via an RTO is a way to achieve training that provides an employment outcome.
