Streamlined Training Packages due in 2012

I was pleased to read an article from Hon John Dawkins AO, Chair NQC about the Training Package reform, which has been spoken about for some time.

A synopsis of his comments are:

  • Agreement has been reached on a new design model which will see Training Packages ‘streamlined’ down to the essentials.
  • The model will see simplified, shortened and segmented Training Packages that are more fit-for-purpose for their key users.
  • New features that will help RTOs improve their use of these products are –
    • ·EASIER TO USE: simpler language, less repetition and greater consistency will make Training Packages much more user-friendly and accessible.
    • ·GREATER FOCUS ON ASSESSMENT, KNOWLEDGE AND FOUNDATION SKILLS: targeted sections of the Training Package will make it easier for RTOs to address these issues.
    • ·MORE SUPPORT FOR RTOs: companion volumes will provide detailed advice on the use and implementation of a Training Package. They will include guides on RTO implementation, learning strategies, knowledge, assessment strategies, and will be released concurrently with each Training Package.

By the end of 2012 all Training Packages are expected to be ‘streamlined’.

The NQC’s Special Bulletin on Streamlining Training Packages provides a snapshot of the issues.
