How will the new model work health and safety (WHS) laws impact within your RTO?

A model WHS Act, model Regulations and model Codes of Practice are due out in Australia by 1 January 2012.

Does your RTO have a solid consultation process that is followed regularly? Consultation and the processes taken within a business are critical factors in achieving compliance. Don’t think you are immune because you are a training company, Workplace safety effects everyone.

OHS professionals have an important role in assisting businesses comply with the new legislation. A key challenge may include changing the way a business thinks about and approaches safety, it is now extended beyond the employer-employee relationship.

Businesses will need training and processes to deal with new duties including consultation. Consultation now includes other workers (such as contractors) as well as employees.There will be changes in all jurisdictions, so make sure you are aware of changes that effect you and your state. Review the changes and work out if there are any gaps that need to be considered.
