Information to assist RTOs or employers retain Aboriginal staff

A resource has been developed by the through the Perth Aboriginal Workforce Development Centre with input from a wide range of stakeholders, including employers and employees, service providers and health professionals. It is still valuable across Australia.

Training and Workforce Development Minister Terry Redman launched the new resource to help employers of Aboriginal people retain valued staff. Mr Redman said the package provided employers with strategies and practical advice to help support, empower and retain, Aboriginal employees. The package is titled ‘How well do you understand the Aboriginal people you employ? A guide to improving retention through supporting wellbeing and good workplace practices’.

The package aims to complement existing resources and will ideally be used by employers as a resource to deliver cultural competency training in the workplace. The resource will play a key role in supporting the State Government’s goal of increasing workforce participation among under-employed and disengaged groups, as outlined in Skilling WA and the Training Together-Working Together initiative.
