The weekend brought many lessons to me.
The news of the passing of Amy Winehouse came as a shock to me as I was driving to a competition in the pre-dawn. There I was in my own world remembering my tests and thinking about the actions I needed to take with my horse whilst warming up to gain maximum opportunities. The news stopped me in my tracks (not literally).
Amy was an excellent singer, a genius who shared her life and put everything of herself into the songs and lyrics recalling her life and struggles. yet I hear she wasn’t willing to seek help. And now she was gone, a memory..with some excellent music memories.
Then came the news that Cadel Evans had won the Tour de France. An aussie, who had put everything into his life to win the event, had not quite achieved, learned some lessons…met the challenge head on, got help…and won. Well done mate.
Why am I sharing this with you, well it made me think about life in general and how you can get caught up and not meet our dreams head on. Like Amy, Cadel had troubles, (from my perspective looking from a distance) he however faced them and did something about them. He was a loner, but reports show he was a different person on the tour this year and warmed to his team mates and showed his own brilliance. Changes had happened.
As in business we need to face our failings and put in place actions to rectify them and stop them from happening again.
….and then there is my horse…a legend in his own feed box. In the tests he has some work to do, we have come a long way, a very long way, but there is refinement to gain the excellence. A critical analysis of the video, a friend who told me how it really was, and now a clearer direction where we need to take action.
In an RTO it maybe an internal audit report, conducted by someone else who shows you where you are needing to take action, or it may be an external audit.
Where ever it comes from, take a hard look at your operations and check to see if you need to make some changes. Some continuous improvement.
