In 2010 the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) was revised to require registered training organisations to systematically validate assessment (including recognition of prior learning). However, the National Quality Council (NQC) recognises that the processes of validation and moderation are not well understood in the VET sector.
Validation can be sometimes appear to be a difficult task to undertake when you have a small RTO, and the people in it wrote the assessments. Think outside the square to get industry experts involved. Create fun meetings that involve assessment validation, include lunch or some other activity to assist your target market. You will find once you start the process that clients will actually enjoy the session and enjoy the fact they have been asked to add value to your assessments. If you involve your clients, they feel you value their opinion.
There are also workshops that have been developed and are being run nationally. The NQC through TVET Australia has appointed Quorum QA Australia Pty Ltd to deliver workshops to communicate and disseminate the key elements contained in the NQC reports on validation and moderation. Check your states Professional development website to see when these workshops are on.
Engage a consultant to assist you with the validation sessions. You could stagger them over a week or 1 per month, to ensure other tasks are still undertaken.
