Compliance in your RTO is about providing the right service to your students and industry. By conducting internal audits you will be ensuring your RTO remains fully compliant and provides the right service.
When arranging your internal audits you MUST use someone who has the knowledge, skills and experience to conduct the audit. Someone who is able to see the RTO as it really is, not someone who is so deeply entrenched into the internal mechanisms. The Auditor needs to work with management to systematically review the RTO systems and training operations. These audits identify the processes in place, and how well they are being adhered to.
The auditors role is conduct the internal compliance audit, prepare and present the findings and where necessary design an action plan to ensure any changes are implemented. Audits can also identify areas where efficiencies or innovations might be made, and solutions to improvement.
Conducting internal audits should be a core function of your RTO. There are three main reasons why internal audits need to be conducted:
- To identify potential non-compliances
- To assess readiness for registration or re-registration audits, and
- To identify areas of improvement to your systems.
Once the audit is conducted and gaps have been identified, this information is used to design an action plan that goes into your Continuous Improvement. If internal audits are not scheduled and conducted, you run the risk poor performance, poor feedback and reduced income, let alone non-compliances at registration time.
